Creating something with your own work that will last for generations is probably not possible for many. But Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) employee Bianka Borcsiczky is currently able to do just that as part of her job as Senior Development Manager at Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier.

In our interview series, Bianka Borcsiczky talks about her responsibilities in project development at Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier and the unique option of working with tenant partners to create custom-fit spaces to implement individual concepts.

A new, lively district with individual concepts

As a Senior Manager in the development team, Borcsiczky is a “conductor of the orchestra” – even according to the official job description – and coordinates the tasks of the individual departments as part of the commercial project management. This is a complex challenge, because numerous departments at URW are involved in the successful realization of the Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier. “We are coming to Hamburg with a completely new district,” Borcsiczky explains the dimensions of the project. On a total area of 419,000 m2, Hamburg HafenCity will feature roofed shopping streets, a wide and varied range of restaurants, 4,000 workplaces in modern office space, a cruise ship terminal and 650 new apartments, of which DC Development is realizing 400. URW is also developing three hotels in the district together with the travel and lifestyle group Accor. In addition, the company is entering into partnerships with providers of leisure and adventure attractions, such as Merlin Entertainments, which is opening Germany’s third and also largest LEGOLAND Discovery Centre in Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier on an area of 3,400 m2.

But it is not only the LEGOLAND Discovery Center that has already been confirmed, more than two years before the planned opening. Kinopolis is also moving to the new quarter on the banks of the Elbe, where the successful cinema operator will open Hamburg’s largest premium multiplex cinema with ten screens and a total of over 2,300 seats. In addition, Germany’s second-largest food retailer REWE and BUDNI, the leading drugstore chain in the Hamburg metropolitan region, will implement individual, custom-fit concepts in Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier. New synergies can be created through the diverse uses of residential, living and working, as well as through the finely tuned tenant mix that will be implemented for the retail and restaurant spaces. People should enjoy spending their time in Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier and feel comfortable, Borcsiczky explains the ambitions behind the project: “It’s this feeling of well-being, this ‘being in good hands,’ that we all enjoy working for here.”
