Around 8.5 million donations in kind and more than 220 aid transports to crisis regions are just two of the results of seven years of charitable work by the Hamburg-based association Hanseatic Help. Since its founding in 2015, the tasks and challenges have not diminished. That is why, in addition to donations in kind and money, the association is always looking for helping hands. Following the Hanseatic Help motto “Simply do something”, this year’s Community Day of the Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier staff – after the Alster Clean Up Tour last year – therefore took place on 28 September 2022 in the association’s logistics halls on Große Elbstraße. The annual Community Day of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) is part of the URW Volunteering Programme, which is derived from the group-wide sustainability strategy “Better Places 2030”.
Hanseatic Help e.V. supports refugees and homeless people, families, single parents and children, women’s shelters, senior citizens and students with clothing and other articles of daily use. The association collects clothing and hygiene donations, sorts them and forwards them as needed and free of charge to more than 300 facilities for people in need. In two groups and with the support of the two office dogs Rosie and Simba, the team of the Westfield Hamburg Überseequartier helped in the morning and afternoon, respectively, among other things with sorting the donations in kind. Beforehand, there was a guided tour of the hall with information about the history of the association, current projects and the way the association works.
Doing good together
The Community Days are promoted by the company management and the commitment of the employees is highly valued. “At the URW Community Days, employees across Europe get involved in social and charitable projects at all locations. Usually, they support organisations in the areas of climate and environmental protection, social integration, childcare or education,” explains Dirk Hünerbein, Director of Development Austria & Germany at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield. “It is great to see how our colleagues in Hamburg have committed themselves to actively helping people in need. And of course, it was also a moving experience for all of us to see the tireless commitment of the people behind such important institutions as Hanseatic Help. So, from the bottom of our hearts, a big thank you to everyone involved.”
Tip: Anyone can help and bring donations in kind or support the incredibly important work of Hanseatic Help with monetary donations. In fact, you can also simply donate time yourself and, like the Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier team, help with collecting, sorting and passing on donations.
