The HafenCity Run, which has long since become a cult event, took place for the 22nd time on June 1. This year, 17,200 participants in 508 teams took part, not only to discover the HafenCity by running, but above all to raise money for social projects. And as in previous years, Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier once again took part with its own team.
The 4.5 km route was once again peppered with the current – and future – highlights of the district. The runners ran around the newly completed Strandkai-Spitze, the Überseeboulevard and through Magdeburger Hafen. And of course there was also a glimpse of future Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier.
It’s all about being there
True to the Olympic motto, there was no timekeeping again this year and consequently no results lists. Northern Germany’s largest company and charity run still focuses on the good cause and the sightseeing aspects. That’s why, at the end of the day, there was great joy that a total of €90,000 had been raised. As in previous years, the money donated will once again be distributed by the official charity partner of the run, Hamburger Abendblatt hilft e.V.: One part will benefit the association’s own projects, the other part will be distributed to charitable institutions in the Hamburg metropolitan region.
As part of its sustainability strategy, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has set itself the task of specifically supporting institutions and projects in the areas of environmental protection, culture, education and social affairs. That’s why the Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier team was once again very keen to take part in the run.
