The Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier construction site is considered one of the largest inner-city construction sites in Europe and a tour of it is a real experience. Everywhere something exciting is happening. No wonder, after all, around 750 people are currently working here on the completion of 14 buildings, 30 cranes are turning above the heads of the construction workers and 280,000 cubic metres of concrete are being used. Last week, 22 residents were able to see this for themselves at the 10th Neighbourhood Event of the Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier: as part of the event, they were brought up to date in the showroom at Sumatrakontor, were able to ask questions and were given exclusive insights into the construction progress during a guided construction site tour – naturally in compliance with strict safety rules and with the appropriate safety clothing.
“You have to have experienced it to be able to imagine it,” says Senior Marketing Manager Karen Mester-Lichtsinn, explaining the extraordinary measure for the small anniversary of the popular neighbourhood meetings. “The dimension, the complexity and the vision of such an extraordinary building project as the Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier are difficult to convey in words or brochure texts.” In terms of content, the focus was not only on the status of construction progress but also on an update on the current leasing status.
Looking forward to spring 2024
The Neighbourhood Event again began with an official welcome by representatives of Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier in the showroom, which is also open to interested visitors outside of events such as this one. Karen Mester-Lichtsinn and Senior Leasing Manager Andreas Weigl used the model of the mixed-use quarter to give an overview as well as an update on the progress of construction and current leases such as the announcement of the relocation of Shell’s German headquarters to “The Yard” office building or from a total of five Inditex brands in the fashion segment of the retail offering. Then it was time to put on protective work shoes, waistcoat and helmet and, accompanied by the Senior Construction Manager Viktor Eskioglou and Lars von Böhlen, move to the construction site on the other side of the street. After this impressive experience, there was once again the opportunity in the showroom for individual questions and conversations amongst the visitors. The growing excitement in anticipation of the opening in spring 2024 could already be perceived.
