HafenCity Run 2023: Sporting commitment for children and young people

HafenCity Run 2023: Sporting commitment for children and young people 2000 1333 Südliches Überseequartier

On 3 June 2023, the HafenCity Run took place once again. Over 14,000 runners in a total of 431 teams waited for the starting signal and not only discovered HafenCity but also supported social children’s and youth projects. Once again, Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier also provided a running team. The charity runners started together and reached the finish line of the approximately 4.5-kilometre-long running course.

The annual HafenCity Run has been taking place for over 20 years. The course, which stretches from the promenades along the harbour basins, across Versmannkai between Baakenparkbrücke and Amerigo-Vespucci-Platz, finishes on Kirchenpauerkai. A special aspect of the charity run is that athletic performance is irrelevant. True to the saying “It’s the taking part that counts!”, neither time is measured nor any other pressure to perform is exerted at northern Germany’s largest company run.

In addition to the shared sporting activity, the social aspect is also an everlasting element of the charity run. As in previous years, the charity partner Hamburg Abendblatt hilft e. V. was supported financially with part of the registration fees. The association is committed to providing support and organising various sports, leisure and therapy activities for children and young people. The aim is above all to support and offer help to needy and disabled children and young people. In the past years, a total of 1.92 million euros has been collected.

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has set itself the task of supporting institutions and projects in the areas of environmental protection, culture, education and social affairs every year. True to the sustainability strategy “Better Places 2030”, an agenda which is supported by the three pillars “Better Spaces”, “Better Together” and “Better Communities”, the company management specifically promotes the social commitment of the employees for charitable projects at all locations in Europe.
